MFA Press Statement: Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo's bilateral meetings at the sidelines of the 14th ASEAN Summit in Cha-am, Phetchaburi, Thailand, 26 February 2009

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, who arrived in Hua Hin, Thailand today, met separately with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda and Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya at the sidelines of the 14th ASEAN Summit.

Minister Yeo had good discussions with Minister Wirajuda and Minister Kasit on regional issues. At both meetings, the Ministers agreed on the importance of ASEAN working closely together to handle the challenges posed by the current global economic downturn. They also reaffirmed the need to deepen ASEAN integration.

Minister Yeo and Minister Wirajuda also discussed bilateral issues, reaffirming the strong cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia. In particular, the Ministers expressed satisfaction with the recent conclusion of an agreement delimiting maritime boundaries between the two countries to be signed in Jakarta on 10 March 2009.
