MFA Press Statement: Meeting between Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of The French Republic Bernard Kouchner, 20 January 2009
During his official visit to Paris, Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo met his French counterpart, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Bernard Kouchner at the Quai d'Orsay on 20 January 2009. He was hosted to lunch by Minister Kouchner, which preceded the signing ceremony by the ministers for the framework agreement to enhance cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The two ministers reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and France as well as their long personal friendship which dated back several years. Minister Yeo highlighted the depth of relations between Singapore and France, not only political and economic, but also defence, science and technology. Both Ministers discussed ways to enhance further bilateral relations, and welcomed a stronger French cultural presence in Singapore. They also exchanged views on regional developments in Asia and Europe, international issues including the current global financial and economic crisis, as well as international efforts to combat piracy in the Gulf of Aden.
