MFA Press Statement: Fire at Bangkok Pub

A fire broke out at the Santika Pub in Bangkok on Wednesday night. According to reports, there were 59 casualties and more than 200 were injured. The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok is in close contact with the local authorities on the situation. As at 1100 hours (Singapore time), 1 January 2009, we have ascertained that two Singaporeans had been injured in the fire. They suffered minor injuries and are in hospital. The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok is working closely with the local authorities to ascertain if there are any other Singaporeans affected.

Singaporeans with friends or relatives who are known to be in the vicinity of the affected area but who remain uncontactable can contact the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok or the MFA Duty Office (24-hours) at:
