MFA Press Statement: Attendance of Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2009 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, 12 January 2009

Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed delivered the opening address of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2009 at Science City in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India with Chief Minister Narendra Modi on 12 January 2009. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by government leaders such as Prime Minister of Kenya Raila Odinga, top Indian business leaders including Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani, as well as representatives from the public and private sectors of more than 37 countries. About 15,000 people attended the event. SMS Zainul's opening address is attached.

While in Gujarat, SMS Zainul, accompanied by the Singapore business delegation, visited INTAS Pharmaceuticals Pte Ltd to get a better sense of Gujarat's fast growing biopharmaceutical industry. SMS Zainul also had a substantive meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to discuss ways to take Singapore-Gujarat relations to the next level. Both sides agreed to identify concrete areas for cooperation. SMS Zainul also encouraged Gujarat's companies to make full use of Singapore's locational advantages and good links to Middle East and East Asia countries.
