Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has written a congratulatory letter to the new Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. The text of the letter is below.

Dear Excellency,

My congratulations on your appointment as the 27th Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Singapore and Thailand enjoy a longstanding and substantive relationship which spans many areas of cooperation. People-to-people ties are also strong. Our two countries share a common interest on many regional and international issues, particularly our commitment to a more integrated ASEAN. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our bilateral relations, as well as to advance regional cooperation during Thailand's Chairmanship of ASEAN. There is much that we need to discuss at the ASEAN Summit, particularly given the financial crisis that has affected the world. I am heartened that you have said that you favour an early Summit

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to make an introductory visit to Singapore at a mutually convenient time.
