Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo made a working visit to Barcelona on 17 November 2008. During his visit, Minister Yeo attended the launch of the Spanish edition of Minister Mentor's memoirs by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce where he was hosted to lunch and delivered a speech on "New Spain in New Asia". Minister Yeo also called separately on the President of the Catalonia government Jose Montilla Aguilera and the Mayor of Barcelona Jordi Hereu respectively. Earlier that day, Minister visited the IESE Business School and was briefed on its development by Dean Jordi Canals.
In the evening, Minister Yeo met with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos. They discussed issues of mutual concern including closer cooperation between the two countries and the current global financial crisis. Both Ministers then attended the official dinner of the Global China Business Meeting held in the Barcelona Maritime Museum.
Minister Yeo leaves Barcelona on 18 November 2008 for Lima, Peru where he is scheduled to attend the APEC Ministerial Meetings.
