Minister George Yeo led the Singapore delegation to the inaugural ASEAN-MERCOSUR Ministerial Meeting on 24 November 2008 in Brasilia, Brazil. The meeting was attended by Ministers and officials from ASEAN and MERCOSUR countries and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat. The meeting exchanged views on a range of global issues including the ongoing economic and financial crisis, food and energy security and climate change. The meeting also considered ways to enhance ASEAN-MERCOSUR cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, people-to-people ties and other areas of mutual interest.
