During a special ceremony at the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat, Secretary-General of ASEAN Surin Pitsuwan received the instruments of ratification of the ASEAN Charter from Lao PDR and Malaysia. He also acknowledged receipt of the instrument of ratification of Brunei Darussalam, which deposited its instrument with the ASEAN Secretariat via correspondence on 15 February 2008.
To date four ASEAN member states have completed ratification of the ASEAN Charter. They are Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Malaysia, and Singapore.
