MFA Press Statement: Working Visit of Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed to Jordan on 21 October 2007

SMS Zainul Abidin Rasheed made a working visit to Jordan on 21 October 2007 to jointly officiate at the opening ceremony of the Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) Regional Vocational Training Centre (RVTC) with Jordanian Labour Minister Bassem Al-Salem. While in Amman, SMS Zainul also called on Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdelelah Al Khatib to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. Both Ministers noted that relations between Singapore and Jordan were warm and friendly. Minister Al-Khatib reaffirmed Jordan's strong support for AMED. He also expressed appreciation for Singapore's close cooperation in establishing the AMED RVTC in Jordan. SMS Zainul expressed in return Singapore's appreciation to the government of His Majesty King Abdullah II for hosting the RVTC. He also agreed with Minister Al-Khatib that both Foreign Ministries should explore areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.

SMS Zainul also paid a separate call on His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal, Personal Envoy and Special Advisor to His Majesty King Abdullah II at his residence. It was a warm and cordial meeting. Prince Ghazi noted the potential areas of cooperation between Singapore and Jordan in the area of inter-faith and inter-civilisation dialogue. Prince Ghazi and SMS Zainul reaffirmed the importance of a collaborative effort in promoting mutual understanding amongst various cultures and religions.
