Speech by George Yeo, Minister for Foreign Affairs and MP for Aljunied GRC, at the Heights Residents Committee (RC) Lunar New Year Dinner on 3 March at 9pm

Dear Friends

First, let me wish everyone a Happy New Year of the pig!

2 Singapore's economy is doing well. We are receiving good investments. Many good jobs have been created. Our international reputation is excellent.

3 But there are families which are not doing well for various reasons. We must help them. If everyone knows of any family which needs help, please inform our Resident's Committee.

4 I have just come back from an ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Cambodia. It was a successful meeting. I also had the opportunity to talk to the Thai and Indonesian Foreign Ministers. Although we have some problems, I believe they can be managed. All of us Foreign Ministers were determined to make ASEAN stronger and more united. Next Monday, during the Committee of Supply Debate for MFA, I will talk in greater detail about our bilateral relations with Thailand and Indonesia.

5 We can be optimistic about our future.

1 首先，让我祝各位金猪年快乐.

2 现在，新加坡的经济表现良好。 我们继续收到高增值投资。 这制造了很多好的就业机会。　我们也有很好的国际信誉。

3 但是，有一些家庭因为各种原因还过得不太好的生活。 我们一定要帮助他们。 如果大家知道那个家庭需要协助，请通知我们的居民委员会。

4 我刚从柬埔寨的一个亚细安外长会议回来。 这次的会议非常成功。 我也有机会和泰国和印尼的外交部长交谈。 虽然我们跟泰国和印尼的关系有一些问题，但是我相信我们能应付这些问题。 我们每一个亚细安外长都决心要使亚细安成为一个更加团结和强大的组织。下个星期一， 我会在国会拨款委员会辩论外交部开支预算时，更详细的谈论我们跟 泰国和印尼的双边关系。

5 我们可以对未来抱着相当乐观的展望。
