MFA Press Statement: Minister For Foreign Affairs George Yeo's Visit To Nagasaki, Japan, 22 March 2007

On 22 March 2007, Foreign Minister George Yeo visited the Nagasaki Memorial and paid respect to those killed in the atomic bomb attack on 9 August 1945 where over 100,000 people died. He also visited the Nagasaki Peace Park and the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum.

At the Peace Park, Foreign Minister saw the 9.7 metre high peace statue by sculptor Seibu Kitamura symbolising the Nagasaki citizens' wish for peace.

At the museum, Foreign Minister inscribed the following words in the visitors' book: "Will we never learn?"
