MFA Press Statement: Bilateral Meeting between Foreign Minister George Yeo and Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing in Cebu on 10 January 2007

Foreign Minister George Yeo and Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing noted that bilateral relations were very good and welcomed the launch of the Singapore-China Free Trade Area (FTA) negotiations within the framework of the ASEAN-China FTA. They exchanged views on regional and international issues. Both sides agreed to cooperate closely on the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) initiative and welcomed the establishment of the Information Sharing Centre in Singapore in November 2006. Minister Yeo shared with Minister Li the outcome of the Nalanda Symposium that was held in Singapore. Minister Yeo also congratulated Minister Li on the successful ASEAN-China Commemorative Summit in Nanning. Both Ministers look forward to the signing of the Services Agreement of the ASEAN-China FTA at the forthcoming ASEAN-China Summit at Cebu.
