In response to media queries on the call by Libyan Secretary of Asian Affairs Mohamed Omar Al Barani on Senior Minister of State Zainul Abidin Rasheed on 27 November 2006, the MFA Spokesman said:

"It was a warm and cordial meeting. This was Secretary Al Barani's first visit to Singapore. Secretary Al Barani gave an update of developments in Libya. He expressed Libya's interest in learning from Singapore's developmental experience. Senior Minister of State Zainul Abidin Rasheed welcomed it and said Singapore would be happy to share our experiences. He suggested that Libya could send its officials to Singapore for training courses conducted under the Singapore Cooperation Programme. Libya could also participate in courses conducted at the Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) Regional Training Centres in Qatar and Jordan. Secretary Al Barani also conveyed an invitation from Secretary for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation Abdul Al Rahman Muhammad Shalgam to Foreign Minister George Yeo to visit Libya at a mutually convenient date next year. Following the meeting, Senior Minister of State Zainul Abidin Rasheed hosted lunch in Secretary Al Barani's honour."
