MFA Spokesman’s Comments on the situation in Timor Leste (Update 1)

Further to the MFA Spokesman's comments of 24 May 2006, the Spokesman reiterated that:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains in close contact with Singaporeans, Foreign Missions and the UN Office in Timor Leste to assist the Singaporeans there."

"In view of the deteriorating security situation in Timor Leste, Singaporeans should defer any travel to Timor Leste. Singaporeans in Timor Leste are strongly urged to leave the country using commercial flights as soon as the situation on the ground allows them to do so."

"Singaporeans who are concerned about family or friends in Timor Leste can contact the MFA Duty Office. The contact details of the Ministry are as follows:
