MFA Press Statement: Visit Of His Eminence Dr Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, Grand Imam Of Al Azhar, 24 To 26 May 2006

His Eminence Dr Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, Grand Imam of Al Azhar will make his first visit to Singapore from 24 - 26 May 2006 at the invitation of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

His Eminence will meet with President S R Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, as well as Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Law, Professor S Jayakumar and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Wong Kan Seng. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will also host a dinner in honour of His Eminence.

While in Singapore, His Eminence will also be hosted by Minister of Environment and Water Resources and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim to an inter-faith lunch meeting with community and religious leaders.

As the inaugural MUIS (Islamic Religious Council) Distinguished Visitor, His Eminence will also deliver the first MUIS Distinguished Visitor Lecture. He will speak on "Islam and its Place in the Modern World".
