Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Law Professor S Jayakumar will be in Bangkok, Thailand on 13-15 February 2006 to attend the 2nd meeting of the ASEAN Charter Eminent Persons' Group (EPG). This is a follow-up meeting from the 1st EPG meeting held at the sidelines of the 11th ASEAN Summit on 12-13 December 2005 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The EPG has been tasked by ASEAN Leaders to make recommendations on an ASEAN Charter to strengthen ASEAN integration and provide a bold vision on the future direction of the grouping.
After the EPG meeting, DPM Jayakumar will proceed to make an introductory visit on 15 - 16 February 2006 in his capacity as Co-ordinating Minister for National Security. During the visit, DPM Jayakumar will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Police General Chidchai Vanasatidya and Minister of Defence General Thammarak Isarangura. They will discuss regional security issues and counter-terrorism cooperation.
