MFA Press Statement: Inaugural Meeting of Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) Working Group on SESCEM Issues, 27-29 Nov 2005, Singapore

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESS STATEMENT

The inaugural meeting of the Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED) Working Group on the Social, Educational, Scientific, Cultural, Environmental and Media (SESCEM) Issues will be held in Singapore from 27-29 November 2005. The meeting will be co-chaired by Jordan and Singapore. 112 participants from 31 countries will participate in the event.

The Working Group aims to foster closer government-to-government and people-to-people cooperation in the social, educational, scientific, cultural, environmental and media spheres. It also aims to produce collaborative initiatives to benefit both regions.

A Welcome Dinner will be held on 27 Nov 05. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed will host dinner for the participants on 28 Nov 05. The participants will also visit the SingSpring Desalination Plant. The meeting will comprise three sessions on (a) Human Resource Development and Media, (b) Promoting Cooperation in Science, Technology and Research and (c) Tradition and Modernity.
