In response to media queries on Iranian President Dr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's comments on 26 October 2005 that Israel should be "wiped off the map", and his latest comments on 30 October 2005 that he was just repeating "the words of the last 27 years...", the MFA Spokesman said:
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 28 October 2005 to express our deep concern at President Ahmadinejad's call for Israel to be "wiped off the map". Singapore deplores such views which go against the letter and spirit of the United Nations Charter. "
