MFA Press Statement: Official Visit Of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to the People's Republic of China

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make an official visit to China on 24 to 30 October 2005 at the invitation of Premier Wen Jiabao.

PM will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, Minister for Trade & Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Education Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister of State (Education and Manpower) Gan Kim Yong, Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) (National Development) Mohamad Maliki bin Osman and senior officials.

In Beijing, PM will meet President Hu Jintao, National People's Congress Chairman Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chairman Jia Qinglin. Premier Wen will also host an official dinner for PM. PM will also be delivering a speech at the Central Party School.

After Beijing, PM will visit Tianjin, Shenyang and Dalian where he will meet with provincial leaders, update himself on economic developments in those cities and visit Singapore companies and investments there.

During PM's absence, Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Law Prof S Jayakumar will be the Acting Prime Minister.
