60TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Deputy Prime Minister S Jayakumar and Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will travel to New York to attend the 60th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Deputy Prime Minister Jayakumar will be delivering a statement at the High-Level Plenary Meeting (HLPM) convened to mark the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations. He will also attend the 2nd ASEAN-UN Summit on 13 September 2005, and an interactive round-table session of the HLPM on 14 September 2005.

On his part, Minister Yeo will be delivering a statement on behalf of Singapore at the General Debate of the UNGA on 22 September 2005. He will also be attending a number of meetings, including the Informal ASEAN Ministers Meeting, the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the G77, and the Meeting of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers.

Deputy Prime Minister Jayakumar and Minister Yeo will also hold bilateral meetings with their respective counterparts from a number of countries.

From New York, Deputy Prime Minister Jayakumar will make an official visit to Brazil from 18 to 23 September 2005. He will visit Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo. During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Jayakumar will meet senior Government leaders and officials as well as the business communities in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

In Sao Paulo, Deputy Prime Minister Jayakumar will officially open an IE Singapore Office and address the School of Business Administration of Sao Paulo.
