MFA PRESS STATEMENT: TRILATERAL FOREIGN MINISTERS' MEETING ON THE STRAITS OF MALACCA AND SINGAPORE
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr George Yeo, will attend a Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Straits of Malacca and Singapore in Batam, Indonesia, from 1-2 August 2005. He will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Yeo will meet Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr Hassan Wirajuda and Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar to discuss issues relating to the safety and security of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. These issues include the enhancement of anti-piracy cooperation among the littoral states and key stakeholders, the strengthening of information exchange, and the role of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and other user states in the Straits.
