MFA Press Release: 59 outstanding Asean students awarded Singapore Scholarships this year

The Singapore Government has awarded university scholarships to 59 outstanding ASEAN students to begin their undergraduate study here his year under the Singapore Scholarship Programme.

At a presentation ceremony for the scholarship awards, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed noted that providing opportunities for bright, young people in ASEAN to have a good education regardless of their economic situation was one of Singapore's ways of fostering a new generation of prominent and influential people within ASEAN. These individuals will eventually contribute to national development in their respective countries and to regional economic integration.

Now in its seventh year, the Singapore Scholarship Programme, which is part of the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP) for sharing Singapore's development experience through technical assistance, allows scholarship in diverse fields, such as Accountancy, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Pharmacy and Physics. All the scholarships are tenable at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University.

The scholars are from Negara Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
