MFA Press Release: State Visit of Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, President, Republic of South Africa

Mr Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, President of the Republic of South Africa, will visit Singapore on 21 April 2005 at the invitation of President S R Nathan. This will be President Mbeki's first State Visit to Singapore. He will be accompanied by First Lady Mrs Zanele Mbeki, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini Zuma, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Aziz Goolam Hoosein Pahad.

President Mbeki will meet President S R Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Prime Minister Lee and President Mbeki will witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Singapore and the Government of the Republic of South Africa concerning Bilateral Cooperation by Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Finance Mr Raymond Lim and South African Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini Zuma respectively. President and Mrs S R Nathan will host a State Lunch in honour of President and Mrs Mbeki.

President Mbeki will deliver the 26th Singapore Lecture entitled "Africa's Season of Hope: The Dawn of a New Asia-Africa Partnership" at 3pm on 21 April 2004 at the Shangri-La Hotel. He will also meet with Singapore business leaders. President Mbeki and his delegation leave Singapore for Jakarta in the evening of 21 April 2005 to attend the Asian-African Summit, which will be held in Indonesia, from 22 to 23 April 2005.
