Travel Notice for France - 14 December 2018

The Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vests) demonstrations will likely continue across France on Saturday, 15 December 2018. As with the four preceding Saturdays, there may be traffic disruptions, and violence in some locations in major cities, including Paris. Heavy police presence is expected. Separately, following the deadly shooting in Strasbourg on 11 December 2018, France has upgraded its national security alert to the highest threat level (“Attack Emergency”).


Singaporeans, who are either travelling to or already in France, are strongly advised to exercise a high degree of caution and avoid unnecessary travel to areas targeted by the protesters and which are likely to be hot spots. Appended below is a list of areas which have been identified by the Paris Prefecture de Police as potential areas of concern:


•             Porte Maillot

•             Avenue des Champs- Élysées and the zone adjacent to it, demarcated by Rue Francois 1er, Rue Vernet, Rue Ponthieu and Rue Chateaubriand.

•             Place Charles de Gaulle (where the Arc de Triomphe is located), as well as the avenues and roads radiating from and around the roundabout.

•             Avenue Montaigne

•             Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt

•             Avenue Matignon

•             Rue de la Boitie

•             Avenue Winston Churchill in front of Grand Palais and Petit Palais, and their immediate surroundings.

•             Place de la Concorde

•             Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré

•             Rue Royale

•             Place de la Madeleine

•             All boulevards between Place de la République and Place Saint Augustin

•             Rue Tronchet

•             Boulevard Malesherbes

•             Place Saint Augustin

•             Boulevard Haussmann

•             Rue de Rivoli

•             Place de l’Opéra

•             Avenue de l’Opéra

•             Rue Auber

•             Rue Halevy

Singaporeans should also avoid any other large gathering and demonstration, monitor local media for the latest developments and heed the instructions of local authorities. Due to disruptions of traffic circulation and public transport, especially in and around the protest areas, they are also advised to allow for more time to get from one place to another.


Singaporeans are encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ so that we may contact you should the need arise. You are also advised to purchase comprehensive travel and medical insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.
