BRINGING CLEAN WATER TO VILLAGES IN INDIA, THE SINGAPORE WAY

Singapore-based organisations are applying the lessons of Singapore’s development to benefit communities in India. Ecosoft, a social enterprise that deals with decentralised water management, is helping villages in India with their water problems. The World Toilets Organisation, headed by founder Jack Sim, is collaborating with local partners to provide safe and affordable sanitation to the rural population. billionBricks, a non-profit organisation, has developed portable, insulated tents to protect the homeless and vulnerable from the extreme weather in India. JUGNUU

JUGNUU

A Singaporean-Indian collaboration aimed at empowering the lives of more than 30 million school children in India. Jugnuu, headed by Singaporean Pramodh Rai,  and Indians Ankita Gupta, and Priya Andleigh, is a social enterprise which provides low-cost English language mobile learning solutions to elementary school students from low-income families in rural India. Jugnuu was also one of the winning teams from the Singapore International Foundation’s 2014 Young Social Entrepreneurs programme  - a programme that seeks to inspire, equip and enable youth of different nationalities to embark on social enterprises in Singapore and beyond. A Singapore-India partnership to save more babies in India. Professor Victor Samuel Rajadurai, senior consultant and head of the Department of Neonatology at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital goes the extra mile as a medical team leader volunteer under the Singapore International Foundation’s Enhancing Newborn Services project,  a four-year collaboration with the Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital in Tamil Nadu, India to help train local doctors and nurses to better care for at risk newborns. “I want to take on the sickest babies because it is a challenge to get them better. And when they are better, I feel so happy,” says Ronikal Infenda, Senior ICU nurse at the department of neonatology at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Be inspired by the passion of these two Singaporean Indian medical volunteers who return to their homeland India to share essential medical skills to help save lives of critically-ill newborn babies, under the Singapore International Foundation’s Enhancing Newborn Services project,  a four-year collaboration with the Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital in Tamil Nadu, India. ENRICHING LIVES THROUGH EDUCATION

Singaporean teacher Ms Vemala Valas Supamaniam had a strong desire to do something to help enrich lives of the underprivileged. She decided to embark on a six-month volunteering programme organised by the Singapore International Foundation in 2011 to teach English and drama to college students at the Parikrma Humanity Foundation in Bangalore, Karnataka.
