The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta hosted Community Day for Singaporeans on 22 August 2015 at ACS Jakarta, in celebration of Singapore's 50th National Day.
The afternoon started with the singing and recitation of the National Anthem and Singapore Pledge. Singapore's Ambassador to Indonesia Anil Kumar Nayar highlighted the significance of SG50 celebrations to Singaporeans both near and far, as a reminder of Singapore's journey over the past 50 years, and a marker of our aspirations for the future.
Our special guest, renowned gastro geek Dr Leslie Tay of ieatishootipost, entertained and educated the audience with his insights into the local Singapore food scene, the history of our beloved hawker dishes, and the importance of preserving and supporting Singapore's hawker heritage. ACS Jakarta and its dance group also put up a special performance for the audience.
The day continued with a round of enjoyable games, photo- taking and bonding between old and new friends, and families, as a community of Singaporeans in Jakarta. It ended with Singaporeans favourite pastime, makan, over a sumptuous spread of Singapore delicacies.
