Travel Notice for Belgium (Updated: 20 November 2017)

Belgium's National Terrorism Threat Level remains at three out of four, which indicates a significant and probable threat in Belgium.

Singaporeans travelling to or residing in Belgium are strongly advised to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, including monitoring the local news and heeding the instructions of the local authorities.  Singaporeans should remain vigilant and where possible, avoid crowded places and public gatherings.  They should also purchase comprehensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.

Singaporeans are strongly encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that we can contact you should the need arise.  Those in need of consular assistance may contact the Singapore Embassy in Brussels or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duty Office (24-hours) at:

Overseas Travel - Keep Safe and Stay Vigilant (18 November 2017)

In 2017, there have been various attacks on civilian targets which affected areas popular with tourists and locals.  Widely-reported incidents in recent months include the attacks in Lower Manhattan in New York (31 October 2017), at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas (1 October 2017), at Las Ramblas Street in Barcelona (17 August 2017), at the London Bridge and Borough Market in London (3 June 2017), and at the Drottninggatan Street in Stockholm (7 April 2017).


As a precaution during this holiday travel season, we advise Singaporeans of the following:


  • Purchase compreshensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.
  • Take a few minutes to eRegister with MFA (online or via the MFA@SG) mobile app.
  • Always take care of your personal safety, and remain vigilant and alert to local security developments.
  • Obey the laws and respect the local customs of the countries you are visiting.
  • Keep your passport and identity card separate to minimise the risk of you losing both your ID documents.
  • Nevery carry too much cash and valuables.  Never leave your valuables unattended.
  • Make sure you know the local rules of the road.  Ensure that you, your passengers and the vehicle are covered by insurance.
  • Excercise caution around large gatherings and avoid locations known for demonstrations or disturbances.
  • Monitor the local news and heed the instructions of the local authorities in an emergency.
  • Stay in touch with your family and friends in Singapore so that they know you are safe.  Inform them of your whereabouts and activities.

Dear Fellow Singaporeans,


        Greetings from the Singapore Embassy!  As the year comes to a close, we would like to thank everyone for the enthusiastic support shown for our events.  We are gratified by your support and look forward to more of such activities in 2017.


2       As the year-end celebrations begin, we would like to remind everyone to exercise care and vigilance and remain alert to local developments.  The security levels of the Benelux countries remain high, and are indicated below for your easy reference:


        (i)  Belgium:    3 out of 4 (Threats possible and likely, but no specific indication of an attack.)


        (ii)  Netherlands:    4 out of 5 (Chance of attack is real, but no specific indication of an attack.)


        (iii)  Luxembourg:    2 out of 4 (Medium threat, increased vigilance, targeted patrols.)

3        Even though the Embassy will be closed from 24 to 31 December 2016, we will keep all of you registered with us updated if there are any major developments.  Do follow us on our Facebook page to get the latest updates and keep the duty number (+32 475 618 265) handy should you require any urgent consular assistance.  If you have Singaporean friends who have not registered with us, please do encourage them to do so, so that we can contact them if required.
