Travel Notice for Egypt [Updated: 5 January 2018]

There continue to be security incidents in Cairo and other parts of the country.  A state of emergency, first declared in April 2017, has been extended by another three months from 13 January 2018.  This may result in additional security checks and restrictions on movements.  Singaporeans may wish to carefully consider their travel plans to Egypt.

Singaporeans visiting Egypt are reminded to remain vigilant and take precautions, including monitoring local news closely, observing instructions from local authorities, being vigilant during religious festivals, and avoiding areas known for public disturbances and large crowds.  They should purchase comprehensive travel and medical insurance and be familiar with their coverage.  Singaporeans are advised to avoid any travel to the Western Desert and Sinai Peninsula apart from air travel to the Sharm El-Sheikh resort area.

Singaporeans visiting Egypt are strongly encouraged to e-Register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at so that we can contact you if necessary and to stay in touch with family and friends so they know you are safe.  Singaporeans staying in Egypt for more than a month should notify the Singapore Embassy in Cairo.  Those who need consular assistance in Egypt may contact the Singapore Embassy in Cairo or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duty Office (24 hours) at:
