Update 2 on Singapore General Election 2020

Overseas voting for the Singapore General Election 2020 will be conducted at the premises of the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C., Singapore Consulate-General in San Francisco and Singapore Consulate in New York on Thursday 9 July 2020 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local timeOverseas Singaporeans who are registered as overseas voters will be able to vote at the Overseas Polling Stations indicated on their poll letter. Registered overseas voters will receive their poll letters in the coming days via the following:

 

  • Hardcopy poll letter mailed to the overseas address they have provided to the Elections Department (ELD);
  • Softcopy poll letter sent to the email address they have provided to ELD;
  • ePoll letter generated by accessing Voter Services on ELD’s website using their SingPass; and
  • ePoll card generated using the SingPass Mobile app.

 

Please bring along your poll letter and original NRIC or Singapore passport to vote.

 

You may wish to refer to ELD’s latest press release hereon the public health and safety measures taken for the Singapore General Election 2020. In particular, we would like to highlight paragraph 10 on overseas voting. The public health measures implemented at the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C. are as follows:

 

  • All voters must undergo temperature screening, which will be contactless, before entry into the Overseas Polling Station.
  • All voters will be required to wear masks, practise safe distancing, sanitise their hands and don plastic gloves when collecting a ballot paper.
  • The Overseas Polling Station will be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals.
  • Voters should exercise social responsibility and remain home if unwell.
  • Overseas Polling Stations will implement the special voting hour between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Polling Day. Any unwell voter with a temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius and above will be asked to return between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. to vote.
  • Overseas election officials serving unwell voters from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. will don full personal protective equipment. Cleaning and disinfecting of the polling equipment (e.g. polling booth, self-inking ‘X’ pen) will be done after every voter’s use during this hour.
  • Overseas voters are reminded to abide by the local laws and regulations put in place for COVID-19, including when making travel arrangements to vote.

 

If you are returning to Singapore and will be serving your 14-day Stay-Home Notice on Polling Day, you will be allowed to vote at the designated facilities away from other voters. Please refer to paragraph 8 and Annex C of ELD’s press release for further details on the polling and counting proceedings.

 

Please note that there will be no consular services at the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C. on 9 July 2020. Consular services will resume on 10 July 2020. As per practice, please write to MFA_WAS_CMR@mfa.gov.sg to schedule an appointment.
