The premises of the Singapore High Commission in London have been designated as an Overseas Polling Station (OPS). The overseas polling will be conducted on Thursday, 9 July 2020 from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm (London Time) at the Chancery located at 9 Wilton Crescent, Belgravia, SW1X 8SP. Only Singaporean voters who have successfully registered as overseas electors will be able to vote at their assigned overseas polling station. Polling letters have been sent out via post and email (where applicable) to registered overseas electors, which include information on safety measures that overseas electors should comply with in light of COVID-19.

The polling procedures at overseas polling stations will be similar to those in Singapore. The overseas polls are open for 12 hours from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm at the local time of the respective cities on polling day. Overseas polls must not close later than the close of polls in Singapore, i.e. 8.00 p.m. (Singapore Time) on Polling Day, 10 July 2020. Hence, polling at overseas polling stations located in the western hemisphere will have to be held one day ahead of the polls in Singapore due to the time difference.

The Elections Department (ELD) has put in place measures in Singapore to protect the health and safety of voters, candidates and elections officials, and to ensure that the General Election can be conducted safely in light of COVID-19.  The Singapore High Commission in London will also implement similar safety measures (e.g. temperature screening, requiring all voters to wear masks, safe distancing, sanitising hands, donning plastic gloves before collecting a ballot paper) for voting as those in Singapore.

Overseas voters are also reminded to abide by the local laws, regulations and guidance put in place for COVID-19, including when making travel arrangements to vote.  In accordance with the UK Government’s COVID-19 guidance, please do not leave home to travel to the polling station if you or someone you live with has any of the following (i) a high temperature (ii) a new, continuous cough (iii) a loss of, or change to, sense of smell or taste. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, you are required to self-isolate (i.e. you must not leave your home) and apply for a COVID-19 test. You are advised to take your temperature before travelling to the polling station.
