The Human Rights Council (HRC) was established in March 2006 as a subsidiary organ of the United Nations General Assembly, replacing the Commission on Human Rights.  The HRC is responsible for promoting universal respect for the protection of all human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction of any kind and in a fair and equal manner. Although currently not a member of the HRC, Singapore is firmly committed to creating a new process of dialogue and cooperation in this new body, based on respect and tolerance for differences and diversity.
