WELCOME REMARKS BY: AMBASSADOR OF SINGAPORE TO EGYPT TAN HUNG SENG AT THE 45th ANNIVERSARY RECEPTION CUM JOINT STAMP LAUNCH AIDA BALLROOM, CAIRO MARRIOTT HOTEL, 17 OCTOBER 2011
Your Excellency, Dr Mohamed Salem, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt, Your Excellency Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, and Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs of Singapore, Dr Tarek El Sadany, Chairman of Egypt Post, Mr Woo Keng Leong, Executive Vice-President of Singapore Post, Excellencies, distinguished guests, fellow Singaporeans, ladies and gentlemen.
2 I am delighted to welcome all of you to this evening's reception to celebrate 45 years of friendship between Egypt and Singapore. This is a special occasion and I am particularly honoured by the presence of our two Guests-of-Honour, Minister Salem and Minister Yaacob. I must also congratulate Egypt Post and Singapore Post for their successful collaboration in producing this beautiful joint stamp issue featuring the Nile and Singapore rivers. These stamps will serve as a lasting reminder of the strong and growing relationship between Egypt and Singapore.
3 In addition to this joint stamp launch, the Embassy will be collaborating with the Al Ahram Foundation to bring its magnificent collection of modern Egyptian art to Singapore in May 2012. This exhibition will be the second major event to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment diplomatic relations. It will also be the first major exhibition of modern Egyptian art in Singapore. The exhibition will be a wonderful opportunity to highlight another dimension of Egypt's rich culture to both Singaporeans and the 14 million tourists, who visit Singapore annually.
4 On behalf of the Singapore Embassy, allow me to express my heartfelt appreciation to all our Egyptian friends and interlocutors for their friendship, support and encouragement over all these years. We look forward to continue working closely with all of you to bring the existing excellent bilateral relations to a higher plane.
5 Thank you for joining us and I wish everyone a very pleasant evening.
