Changi Airport Group issues clarification to set record straight regarding “untrue and misleading” claims about Batam airport reported in The Jakarta Post

Changi Airport Group clarifies

The Jakarta Post

26 Apr 2018

We refer to The Jakarta Post reports of April 5 and April 7 titled “Batam airport does not want to become Air Force base” and “Batam airport opposes air base proposal”, respectively. The reports quoted Hang Nadim International Airport general manager Suwarso claiming that Changi International Airport’s management had asserted that Hang Nadim International Airport’s status as an alternative airport would be revoked if Hang Nadim built a hangar and apron for jet fighters.

These claims are untrue and misleading. Changi Airport Group has never discussed the issue of alternative airports or aerodromes with officials from Hang Nadim International Airport or other parties.

According to standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the selection of alternate airports for each flight is done by the airlines, which will specify their choice of alternate airport in their flight plans.

We hope that our clarification will prevent any unnecessary misunderstanding.
