Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Former First Lady

Republic of Ghana

Dear Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings,

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

We interacted on many occasions when both of us attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings, and got to know each other well. I vividly recall his charisma and the passion with which he spoke about Ghana.

I also had the privilege of hosting then-President Rawlings to dinner during his visit to Singapore in December 1995, and last met him at a meeting of the InterAction Council in Tianjin, China in May 2012.

Your husband was an exemplary leader who indelibly shaped his beloved country and the region for the better.

Please accept my deepest condolences in this time of grief.

Yours sincerely,

GOH CHOK TONG
