Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's Telephone Call with PRC State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, 18 March 2020

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan spoke with PRC State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi on 18 March 2020 via telephone.

Minister Balakrishnan commended State Councilor Wang on the significant progress China has made in bringing its domestic COVID-19 situation under control. They exchanged views on the global COVID-19 situation, including developments in China and Singapore. Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang agreed that Singapore and China should enhance cooperation to strengthen both countries’ collective resilience, including taking steps to address both public health and economic imperatives over the longer term.

Minister Balakrishnan and State Councilor Wang also discussed how ASEAN and China can continue to share information and strengthen cooperation on COVID-19. They agreed that the international community should stand united and work together to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.
