Official Visit by Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secretary of the Communist Party of China Chongqing Municipal Committee Chen Min'er, The People's Republic of China, 11 September 2019

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee Chen Min’er called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and was hosted to dinner by Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean today. Secretary Chen also met Minister (Trade and Industry) Chan Chun Sing.
 
Prime Minister Lee welcomed Secretary Chen to Singapore, and affirmed the longstanding and strong relations between Singapore and China. Prime Minister Lee and Secretary Chen discussed the extensive cooperation between Singapore and Chongqing, including the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI), which is Singapore’s third Government-to-Government project with China.  Both Prime Minister Lee and Secretary Chen expressed satisfaction with the progress of the CCI, especially its New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (CCI-ILSTC), which has also enhanced Singapore’s cooperation with China under the Belt and Road Initiative. They looked forward to further strengthening economic cooperation between Singapore and Chongqing.
 
Senior Minister Teo and Secretary Chen welcomed the positive developments in the Singapore-Chongqing relationship since their last meeting in July 2018, including the upgrade of the Southern Transport Corridor under the CCI to the ILSTC in November 2018. Secretary Chen updated Senior Minister Teo on the developments and upcoming plans for Chongqing, including on the CCI-ILSTC. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments.
 
Earlier in the day, Minister Chan and Secretary Chen delivered speeches at the Singapore-China (Chongqing) Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Enterprise Singapore and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. Minister Chan spoke about Singapore’s cooperation with China and Chongqing, while Secretary Chen shared his vision for Chongqing and how Singapore and Chongqing can continue to strengthen the partnership between both sides. At the forum, Minister Chan and Secretary Chen also witnessed the launch of the International Data Channel under the CCI and the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding between Singapore and Chongqing agencies and companies, covering areas such as trade, finance, and information technology.
