Joint Press Statement on the Visit by Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to the People's Republic of China, 10 to 15 April 2019

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will visit the People’s Republic of China from 10 to 15 April 2019 at the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and CPC Central Committee Organisation Department (COD) Minister Chen Xi.  DPM Teo and Minister Chen Xi will co-chair the 7th Singapore-China Forum on Leadership.  DPM Teo will visit Beijing from 10 to 11 April; Suzhou (Jiangsu Province) on 12 April; Shanghai on 13 April; and Yan’an (Shaanxi Province) from 14 to 15 April.

               In Beijing, DPM Teo will meet Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC and Central Commission for Discipline Inspection Secretary Zhao Leji; Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC and Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office Director Yang Jiechi; Member of the Central Military Commission, State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe, and other Central leaders.
 
               In Suzhou, DPM Teo will attend the commemorative activities for the 25th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP).  Established in 1994, the SIP was the first Government-to-Government project between Singapore and China, and has become a hallmark of our bilateral cooperation.  Today, the SIP is ranked as one of China’s top industrial parks and is a modern integrated township.  DPM Teo will meet and be hosted to lunch by Secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee Lou Qinjian. 
 
               In Shanghai, DPM Teo will attend Singapore Day, which will bring together overseas Singaporeans living in China.  DPM Teo will also meet Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC and Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee Li Qiang.

               The 7th Singapore-China Forum on Leadership will be held at the China Executive Leadership Academy in Yan’an (CELAY).  Minister (Trade & Industry) and Minister-in-charge of the Public Service Chan Chun Sing will participate as the Singapore Deputy Co-Chair of the Forum.  The theme of this year’s Forum is ‘Addressing Our Peoples’ Aspirations for Better Lives’.  DPM Teo and Minister Chen Xi will deliver opening addresses at the Forum.  DPM Teo will also have a bilateral meeting and be hosted to dinner by Minister Chen.  First held in 2009, the Forum on Leadership is a strategic platform for political leaders and senior officials of Singapore and China to discuss and exchange experiences on common challenges related to leadership development.  Secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee Hu Heping will meet DPM Teo in Yan’an and host lunch for the delegation.
 
               DPM Teo will be accompanied by Minister (Culture, Community and Youth) Grace Fu; Minister (Trade & Industry) and Minister-in-charge of the Public Service Chan Chun Sing; Minister (Prime Minister’s Office) and Second Minister (Education) (Finance) Indranee Rajah (Beijing and Suzhou only); Senior Minister of State (Communications & Information) (Transport) Dr Janil Puthucheary; Senior Minister of State (Health) (Law) Edwin Tong (Suzhou, Shanghai and Yan’an only); Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Home Affairs) (National Development) Sun Xueling; Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Foreign Affairs) (Trade & Industry) Dr Tan Wu Meng; as well as senior officials from various Ministries and agencies.
