MFA Press Statement: Visit of His Excellency Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, President of the National Security Bureau, State of Kuwait, under the S R Nathan Fellowship

His Excellency Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, President of the National Security Bureau of the State of Kuwait, called on Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean and was hosted to tea by Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman on 15 November 2017.

DPM Teo and Sheikh Thamer exchanged views on regional issues and the security challenges facing Kuwait and Singapore. SMS Maliki and Sheikh Thamer reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between both countries and had a wide-ranging discussion on developments in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Sheikh Thamer also had separate meetings with Minister for Communications and Information, and Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, and Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam on 16 November 2017. They discussed ways that both countries could cooperate to tackle the threats of radicalisation, extremism and terrorism.

Sheikh Thamer is visiting Singapore from 14 to 16 November 2017 under the S R Nathan Fellowship at the invitation of SMS Maliki.
