SMS Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman will visit Kathmandu, Nepal from 2 to 5 May 2017 to mark the completion of the Singapore Red Cross’ (SRC) humanitarian relief efforts in the wake of the April 2015 earthquake in Nepal. Together with SRC Chairman Tee Tua Ba, SMS Maliki will officiate the commemorative ceremony - “Partnerships for Humanity – Rebuilding in Nepal”. SMS Maliki will also officiate the opening of Shree Kalika Basic School, which was reconstructed following the earthquake with the assistance of SRC.
SMS Maliki and Minister of Health Gagan Kumar Thapa will witness the launch of “Rebuilding Communities through Healthcare”, a programme jointly organised by Nepal Ministry of Health and Singapore Heath Services (SingHealth), with the support of Temasek Foundation International, to enhance the post-disaster capacity of Nepalese government hospitals.
During his visit, SMS Maliki will meet Minister for Defence Bal Krishna Khand and Chief of Army Staff General Rajendra Chhetri. SMS will also interact with the Singaporean community in Nepal.
SMS Maliki will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
