Prime Minister of Spain José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew during a working visit to Singapore. Following the meetings, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income, as well as the Agreement on Cultural, Education and Scientific Cooperation. Prime Minister Lee also hosted Prime Minister Zapatero to an official dinner at the Istana.
During his meetings, Mr Zapatero briefed PM Lee and MM Lee on the reforms that Spain had pursued in response to the economic crisis in Europe. He also exchanged perspectives with the Singapore leaders on recent developments in Asia and Europe and other topical international issues, and discussed opportunities for Singapore and Spain to strengthen bilateral economic relations and cooperation in fields such as research, education and renewal energy.
