MFA Press Statement: State Visit by President S R Nathan to Japan, 9 to 16 May 2009

President S R Nathan will make a State Visit to Japan from 9 to 16 May 2009. This will be the first State Visit by a Singapore President to Japan.

In Japan, President Nathan will be meeting Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko and senior Japanese leaders including Prime Minister Taro Aso, Speaker of the House of Representatives Yohei Kono and President of the House of Councillors Satsuki Eda. President Nathan will also receive an Honorary Degree from Keio University. Besides Tokyo, President Nathan will be visiting Kyoto and Hiroshima.

President Nathan will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr George Yeo, Senior Minister of State for Education Ms Grace Fu, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Home Affairs Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Members of Parliament Mr Seah Kian Peng and Mr Charles Chong, and senior officials.
