In response to media queries on the New Straits Times article dated 31 May 2006 in which the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister was quoted as saying that "Colombo had information that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam may be channelling money from sympathisers to bank accounts in Malaysia and Singapore," the MFA Spokesman said:
"We would like to request the Sri Lankan government to provide us with more information. Singapore will take action against those who violate our laws."
