MFA Spokesman's Comments

In response to media queries on the allegation that Singapore had imposed restrictions to curb the entry of its nationals and other travellers into Malaysia, the MFA Spokesman said:

"These allegations are absurd. It is untrue that Singapore Immigration and Registration (SIR) had imposed additional restrictions to curb the entry of Singaporeans and other travellers into Malaysia.

As part of the anti-terrorism effort, heightened security checks are being carried out post-11 September 2001 at all checkpoints and on all passengers transiting or visiting Singapore. Malaysia should understand the need for these extra precautions which many countries around the world have had to adopt."
