Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press Statement on Terrorists Attacks in New York and Washington at 13 Sept @1130 hrs

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PRESS STATEMENT

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Operations Centre in Singapore, Singapore Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C. continue with their 24-hour operations.

As at 1130 hours (Singapore time), the remaining two Singaporeans who were earlier believed to have been in the vicinity of the World Trade Centre in New York and who had been unaccounted for, have now been located and are safe.

Our Mission in New York and Embassy in Washington D.C. have by now contacted 713 Singaporeans to confirm their safety.

However, due to the catastrophic nature of the tragedy, it will take time for the American authorities to establish the number and identities of the casualties in New York and Washington D.C.

373 Singaporeans have contacted the Ministry for assistance for their friends and relatives.

Our Mission in New York and Embassy in Washington D.C. will continue to help Singaporeans who may need temporary travel documents and other consular assistance.
