Dear Visitors,
I am delighted to welcome you to the homepage dedicated to Singapores membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) from 2001 - 2002. Singapore has never served on the UNSC before that. Even though we had been members of the UN for over 35 years, we were reluctant to serve on the UNSC earlier as we were uncertain of the real contribution we could make. Today, we remain modest about what we contributed during our term on the UNSC. Nevertheless, we made every effort to both strengthen the UNSC as well as help to resolve the many problems dealt with by the UNSC. Singapore remains a strong believer in the UN Charter and a strong supporter of the mandate given to the UNSC to exercise primary responsibility over peace and security issues. Small states have a greater vested interest in international peace and stability than larger states. Any measures taken by the UNSC to enhance international peace and stability as well as greater respect for international law will therefore be supported by Singapore. As this was our first time on the UNSC, we had a lot of learning to do. We would like to share our learning as well as our experiences on the UNSC with our friends in the international community. We hope that this website will provide us an appropriate vehicle to meet these goals.Thank you for visiting us and I hope that you will visit us again soon.
