ingapore was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council at the 55th Session of the UN General Assembly on 10 October 2000. It served in the UN Security Council for two years, from 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2002.


     
This was the first time that Singapore had served in the UN Security Council. As an additional privilege, Singapore was also President of the UN Security Council in the months of January 2001 and May 2002.
