1 December: More than 400 Singaporeans and their families joined in for a cosy afternoon at the Tokyo Prince Hotel at Shiba Park for the annual year-end luncheon. Satay, Laksa, Chicken Rice and Tiger beer were some of highlights for the day!

20 October: The Embassy hosted a reception for our students studying in Japan. More than 50 students joined us on this lovely Saturday morning!

3 December: Year-end Gathering for Singapore Community
Despite a very wet day, more than 400 Singaporeans and their family members turned up at the Tokyo Prince Hotel at Shiba Park for the annual year-end luncheon, where there was plenty of Singapore food, Tiger beer and good cheer.

29 October: Luncheon with Singapore Students in Japan
Ambassador Tan Chin Tiong hosted a luncheon for Singaporean undergraduates and post-graduate students in Japan. This annual event at the Embassy provides an opportunity for Singapore students to not only keep in touch with the latest happenings in Singapore but also to develop friendships with their fellow Singaporean peers here in Japan. Singapore food was the flavour of the day on this pleasant autumn day in October.

23 October: Premiere of “Tatsumi” at Tokyo International Film Festival
Singapore was represented at the 2011 TIFF by Tatsumi, an animation film directed by renowned Singapore director Eric Khoo about the works of famous Japanese comic artist, Yoshihiro Tatsumi. Deputy Chief of Mission Laurence Bay delivered a toast speech at the reception on the film’s launch.

8 September: Singapore National Day Reception
The reception was held at the Imperial Hotel. More than 400 Singaporeans from all walks of life turned up to celebrate our nation’s 46th birthday. Following welcome remarks from Ambassador Tan, a cash donation of 4.2 million yen was presented to Special Advisor to Rikuzentakata Mayor Kiyoshi Murakami by Chairman of the Singapore Association in Japan Andy King on behalf of the Singapore community in Tokyo for Project Merlion. Singaporeans also had an opportunity to watch this year’s National Day Parade in the ballroom.

Project Merlion
The Embassy with the support of the Singapore Association in Japan (SAiJ) raised 4 million yen from Singaporeans and major Singapore corporations based in Japan such as CapitaLand, DBS, GIC, Ascendas, Singapore Airlines, United Overseas Bank, Singapore Exchange Limited and APL. The donations, which exceeded the initial target of 3 million yen, were used to purchase two relief vehicles for Rikuzentakata City in Iwate Prefecture.

15 to 18 July: Volunteer Relief Mission to Iwate Prefecture
A group of 32 Singaporeans and Japanese volunteers, including staff from the Embassy and a few members from the Japan Singapore Association, travelled 10 hours from Tokyo by coach to Iwate Prefecture from 15 to 18 July 2011. The group did relief work at Kuwagasaki and Onatsupe in the region of Miyako City.
