President Tony Tan Keng Yam met Federal Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel at the Federal Chancellery on 27 June 2012.
During the meeting, Chancellor Merkel welcomed President Tan's visit to Germany as an important signal of the firm friendship and multifaceted relations between Singapore and Germany. The two leaders agreed that the prospects for closer bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of research and development, were bright. In addition, Chancellor Merkel shared with President Tan Germany's perspectives on the Eurozone crisis.
President Tan also met with eminent German scientists in the same evening.
