MFA Press Statement: Call On Rwanda President Paul Kagame by Senior Minister Of State For Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed, 28 March 2008

Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed called on Rwandan President Paul Kagame on 28 March 2008. During the 40-minute meeting, President Kagame briefed SMS Zainul on Rwanda's economic priorities and developments related to the East African Community, a regional grouping that comprises Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. They also discussed the status of bilateral cooperation between Singapore and Rwanda. President Kagame expressed satisfaction with Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) for its technical assistance to Rwandan Government, in areas such as workforce development, civil aviation and social security.

President Kagame will be making an official visit to Singapore in May 2008 to broaden and deepen the bilateral relationship. President Kagame indicated to SMS Zainul that he would also like to draw lessons for Rwanda through discussions with Singapore leaders on Singapore's developmental experience.

During the 2-day visit to Rwanda, SMS Zainul also met with Prime Minister Bernard Mazuka, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Dr Charles Murigande, Minister of Finance and Planning Mr James Musoni and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mrs Rosemary Museminali, Minister of Trade and Commerce Ms Monique Nsanzabaganwa and Minister of East African Community Affairs Ms Monique Mukaruliza. SMS Zainul also visited the Gisozi Memorial, which is a museum dedicated to the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
